What is Intermittent Fasting in the first place ?

In its purest form fasting is defined as abstinence from all food and drink except water for a specific period of time usually for a therapeutic, medical or religious purpose.

This remedy has been around since the beginning of time. When hunter gatherers who had no refrigerator and no leftovers, they had to go out and had to gather their food, they would go days or even weeks without eating. How did they sustain themselves? From an evolutionary standpoint we had to be able to fast and withstand long periods of not eating.

One of the most popular types of fasting today is Intermittent fasting used as a tool for burning fat. Which means eating in a small window or not eating upon awakening and having your last meal earlier in the evening. Obviously, the length differs from one person to the other. The point is depleting immediate energy sources like glucose and glycogen.

It is estimated that the average north American is carrying 5-10 pounds of toxic substances in their bodies, for which fasting is the quickest and most effective means of removal and detoxification.

Intermittent Fasting Benefits

Personally, every time I do intermittent fasting for detoxification purposes I feel rejuvenated and my body can surely tell the difference. Even if its only juice fasting for three days. I sometimes pick an item to abstain from for a period of time, like meat, sugar or caffeine. Thanks to practicing different forms of fasting my hormones are more balanced and I experience how fasting frees up energy so healing can begin.

The secret is when you cut down carbs and replace them with good fats, body runs out of glucose and glycogen stores. It will then turn to your stored fat as a source of energy. Body fluidly shifts from burning sugar and goes into a fat-burning mode.

When it comes to mental clarity fasting has a tremendous affect on the brain health, when we look at how our ancestors operated through long periods of time between meals, it would make sense that they had to have a lot of focus. They had to be paying attention to what they are doing and focus in order to get food. Fasting actually causes the brain to become very efficient despite what many people may assume.

The other reason I highly recommend Intermittent fasting is that it supports blood sugar balance and lowers inflammatory markers up to 60 %.

You can repeat it throughout a month and give your pancreas and liver a rest.

Studies show that the best way to start to support a detoxification is to choose a 3 day fresh vegetable juice fast (Instead of a water fast or a longer fast). Longer fasts require strict supervision, while you can conduct shorter ones at home.  Remember Your body is your temple and you need to listen to its signals.

Intermittent Fasting and Rest

Rest is one of the most important aspects of a fasting. The more rest the better the results as energy can be directed toward healing instead of other body functions.
